Former Trulia exec Alon Chaver has joined the board of managers for the first national MLS listing portal, dubbed the Broker Public Portal.
Chaver, who helped secure data license agreements with MLSs and brokerages for nearly three years as vice president of industry services at Trulia, joins the 16-member board as an outside director. Chaver left Trulia earlier this month.
As a board member, Chaver will help the group make voting decisions that guide the actions of the company, said Victor Lund, founding partner of the real estate consulting firm WAV Group. WAV Group is facilitating the Broker Public Portal project.
Chaver fills one of two potential outside director seats. The board hasn’t said whether it will fill the other slot.
The board, which includes a mix of MLS and broker execs, voted unanimously to bring Chaver on board.
Chaver understands the ins and outs of data licensing, Lund added.

In addition to locking in data agreements with brokerages and MLSs at Trulia, Chaver secured countless IDX data agreements while CEO of real estate website vendor iHomefinder, where he spent eight years just before joining Trulia.
At Trulia, Chaver also developed a deep understanding for what consumers want in home search, Lund said.
“MLS consumer-facing websites have long occupied a valued strategic position supporting their brokers’ online marketing efforts and winning the confidence and trust of consumers with timely, accurate and comprehensive information direct from the source,” Chaver said in a statement.
Fifty-one brokers and forty-four MLSs have contributed $480,000 in seed money to get the Broker Public Portal off the ground.
