Tiny home a first for Houston

Listing Agent

Sitting on stilts and featuring only 288 square feet of interior space one Houston home can almost be dubbed an adult tree house.

The dwelling is said to be the only home of its kind currently on the market, with a list price of $110,000.

Located in the Medical Center South submarket of Houston and sitting on a 5,757-square-foot, densely wooded lot, the home is being built by Conrad Tips, who runs a Husbands for Hire contracting service.

The property represents the builder’s first go at a tiny home, according to Cory McDonald of JLA Realty, who is the listing agent.

The elevated home has received 300-plus views on HAR.com and is still under construction, with completion slated for mid-January.

While the interior of the home is tiny, the bedroom dimensions are 8-foot by 7-foot, the dwelling features a wrap-around deck that is roughly four times the size of the interior.

Prior to completion, McDonald plans to hire a drone operator to capture the expanse of the home and its views.

Interior features of the home include re-purposed oak flooring and a built-in, queen size bed that folds into a couch. Underneath the home and decking is ground-level coverage space that will feature a small enclosed area for laundry/electrical, along with an open space for parking.

According to McDonald, Conrad Tips wants to build more small housing in Houston, next using shipping containers. The builder also has bigger plans to acquire a sizable lot and build a community of tiny homes, with green spaces blended in and parking only permitted outside the community.
