7 instant stress-reducing techniques for real estate agents

You’ve made it to the end of a busy day, which should inspire feelings of complete joy, and visions of you kicking back at happy hour or spending some much needed time with family.

However, it can rouse anxiety over the to-dos you have yet to complete — especially for real estate agents. Before you tackle your list or respond to your client’s message on a Saturday morning, take a few minutes to clear your mind with one of these seven relaxation tactics.

1. Ground yourself

Many of us fidget around in our seats and cross our feet and ankles in an attempt to release nervous energy. Instead, sit upright with your feet firmly planted on the ground. This action helps you to become self-aware, improves breathing and makes you feel in control of your body and attitude.

2. Do a breathing exercise

Believe it or not, there is an incorrect way to breathe! Short, hurried breaths don’t provide us with the oxygen we need to fully function.

Work on taking slower and deeper breaths that allow your diaphragm to fully open (you’ll see your belly poke out). These are the type of breaths that increase focus and reduce stress.

3. Use aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been used by various cultures throughout time to help balance one’s emotions and overall sense of well-being.

Take a trip to your nearest health food store and talk to a specialist about which essential oil is best for your needs. Feeling stressed? Use lavender. Need more energy? Citrus oils such as orange, grapefruit or lemon will have you feeling peppy in no time. Just put a few drops of the oil in a diffuser that you can place on your desk.

4. Listen to ambient sound

For some, the sound of ocean waves or even a light rain can be relaxing. Just download some tracks onto your phone to play at a moment’s notice while you clear your mind.

5. Daydream

Change your computer’s wallpaper to a relaxing scene or use a personal photo from one of your favorite vacations.

Close your eyes, and take a few moments to imagine yourself in that moment. Think of the sun shining on your face, the smile of your child or the laugh of a loved one. Use those memories to shift your anxious energy.

6. Take a walk

Get up and take a few laps around your office and even say hello to a few co-workers along the way. Walking will get your blood flowing and boost your mood in the process.

7. Laugh!

We’ve all heard the saying: “Laughter is the best medicine,” and recent research is showing that may be true. Researchers say laughing can lower your blood sugar, boost your immunity and help you relax.

Although the jury is still out on the accuracy of these claims, it never hurts to read a funny article, watch a YouTube skit or crack a few jokes around the watercooler.
