Apartment List finds Washington DC rent no. 3 most expensive

Welcome to Apartment List’s February 2016 Washington, D.C. Rent Report.

With rents rising across the country, we took a look at some of the largest U.S. cities to see how they fare, and DC is one of the most expensive cities for renters.

Washington, D.C. is the 3rd most expensive city in the U.S.

With median rent rates of $3,000 for a two-bedroom and $2,200 for a one-bedroom, DC is the 3rd most expensive city in the United States.

It is right behind NYC ($4,500 for a two-bedroom and $3,380 for a one-bedroom) and San Francisco ($4,760 for a two-bedroom and $3,520 for a one-bedroom)– the top two most expensive cities for renters.

Washington, D.C. apartments getting pricier

Washington, D.C. rents upticked by 3.7 percent over the past year, which is 0.4 percent higher than the national rent increase. This was also a significantly larger increase than other East Coast cities like Boston (1.6 percent) and NYC (0.7 percent).
