Located along Chicago’s North Shore the village of Lake Bluff is a small affluent suburb with a sizable stock of luxury homes.

The charming community has been ranked by Chicago Magazine as one of the 20 great towns and neighborhoods in the metro area– but that comes as no surprise to the area’s residents.

While it may have a population of just more than 5,700, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, Lake Bluff is a great place for agents and homebuyers alike.

Lake Bluff real estate market

As of mid-March, 51 listed homes in Lake Bluff were priced at $500,000 or more, with 23 of those homes priced at more than $1 million. Some of the most expensive neighborhoods are Village Center and Knollwood.

Depending on the source, the median home price in the village of 5,700 is said to be anywhere from $588,000 to more than $671,000.

Because of these home prices Lake Bluff residents must earn a sizable income. According to Sperling’s Best Places, the median household income in the village is $146,500, with a number of residents working in the management, business and finance sectors.

Roughly an hour’s drive from Chicago, or a 55-minute train ride, the village is said to have a cost of living that is 70 percent higher than the U.S. average.

Unique along the North Shore

The village is approximately four square miles in size and comprised primarily of married couples and families.

The area’s Lake Bluff Elementary School District recently ranked as the no.65 district in Illinois.

The village has been touted for its 22-year-old farmers market that runs from mid-June to early October.

Outdoor offerings within the village include Sunrise Beach, several country clubs and a public golf course. The nine-mile Green Bay Trail, which runs parallel to the Chicago Metra North Line goes through Lake Bluff is an area favorite for running, biking or walking.
