Leigh Brown: Quit complaining and tell educators what you want

I’m here with the Florida Realtors Educators, and I just want to stress today how hard your people work to bring you education that you often don’t bother to show up for.

Now you’ve probably heard me say this before, but you need to put your dead ass in a seat and learn something.

We have the top 10 Realtor complaints with Letty Oliver, professional development director at the Miami Association of Realtors. Now some of these complaints are valid, like a boring or egotistical trainer.

However, Oliver gets complaints about things like coffee creamer. Apparently, one Realtor was displeased that his coffee creamer preference was not represented among the three offered at the training (not to mention the three types of sugar and several beverage choices).

The truth is: you are grown. There isn’t any reason the association should be fielding complaints like it’s too cold or you couldn’t find the bathroom. It’s embarrassing to me that my people — my Realtor people who are an average age of 57 years old — are complaining about nitpicky things.

Instead, you just need to show up and learn. Try these tips to improve your education.

  1. Give us the topics you want to cover
  2. Show up and tell us what you want
  3. Read your emails

And if you think you can do better than all the instructors out there — raise your hand and volunteer. Some of us are glad to train you and bring you up so that we can make the industry better for everybody.
