They are small, but mighty. This next generation of under-40 real estate professionals make up a mere 11 percent of the 1.3 million Realtors, but they are making their mark in the real estate world.

Where does a 30-something agent with big goals and the hunger for knowledge go when surrounded by an office filled with 50-something part-time, second career stop, Windows-7-using agents?

The Young Professionals Network (YPN) has network groups tied to local Realtor Boards across the county, waiting for 20- and 30-year-old professionals who want to learn and lead in their markets.

JD McClintock, the 2015 chairman of YPN for his local board, shares the exciting things young agents are collaborating on these days. Including technology-based education, important political policies shaping the real estate profession and community and humanitarian efforts, this generation is one that is leading from a global perspective.

In a profession where the average age is 54, the call to revitalize the industry is critical. McClintock believes that while there is a perceived generational battle, that ultimately millennials value collaboration and want the chronologically young and those same older young-at-heart agents with their experience to join with them raising the bar for the industry.

For this new generation, gone are the days of happy hour meet-ups disguised as networking.
