The low inventory of homes in Chicago’s suburban communities have helped propel housing prices and sway the market in favor of homesellers, according to new data released by Midwest Real Estate Data and the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.

Home values in Chicago are still well below its $247,000 peak, according to Zillow, but the city’s median home value increased 4 percent year-over-year to $199,800.
