Weingarten Realty Investors completed the acquisition of five shopping centers and one industrial property in the final quarter of 2003, adding 799,900 square feet to the portfolio.

The total value of the transactions was $82.8 million.

Publix at Laguna Isles is a 69,500-square-foot shopping center located at the northeast corner of Sheridan Street and SW 196th Avenue in Pembroke Pines (Fort Lauderdale), Fla. Anchored by Publix, the number one supermarket operator in the Florida markets, the center was more than 98 percent occupied at the time of sale.

The second acquisition, University Palms, is a 99,200-square-foot shopping center located at the northeast corner of Alafaya Trail and McCullough Road in Oveido (Orlando), Fla. This shopping center was 100 percent leased at the time of sale and was anchored by Publix and Blockbuster.

Brookwood Square, a 253,450-square-foot shopping center anchored by Home Depot, Staples and Marshalls, is located at the northeast quadrant of East-West Connector and Austell Road (State Road 5) in Austell, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta. The property was more than 95 percent occupied at the time of sale.

The final two retail transactions, West Jordan Town Center and Taylorsville Town Center, represent Weingarten’s first operating property acquisitions in the state of Utah, and both are located in the greater Salt Lake City area. West Jordan Town Center is a 300,800-square-foot shopping center anchored by Albertson’s, Target, Office Depot, Petco, Rite Aid, Party City and Honk’s Dollar Store. Located at the northwest corner of West 7000 South St. and South Redwood Road in West Jordan, this center was more than 99 percent leased at the time of sale. Taylorsville Town Center is a 143,000-square-foot shopping center located at the southwest corner of West 4700 South St. and Redwood Road in Taylorsville. Anchored by Albertson’s and Rite Aid, this center was 89 percent occupied at the time of sale.
