The Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate franchise network has added the largest independent brokerage in Maine to its ranks, the network announced Wednesday.

The Bangor, Maine-based Town & Country, Realtors will now operate as Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Town & Country. The brokerage adds nine offices and more than 100 agents to Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate’s 125 or so offices and approximately 5,000 sales associates. Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate is a subsidiary of Realogy.

"It’s a strategic and comprehensive relationship with an iconic brand that will help us further connect with consumers," said Earl Black, the brokerage’s president and CEO, in a statement.

"The franchise agreement with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate affords us a range of new media relationships that will enhance our profile and will also serve as a catalyst for our company’s future growth and expansion throughout Maine."  

Town & Country was recently named as one of the top 500 largest brokerages by residential real estate publishing and communications company Real Trends, coming in at No. 482 with 932 transaction sides closed in 2009. Real Trends also ranked Town & Country as one of the largest independent brokerages across the country.

The brokerage is also partnering with New Hampshire-based Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate The Masiello Group to expand the franchise’s growth throughout New England.

"We look forward to joining our efforts with Town & Country to expand the visibility of our companies regionally while working together to build new business opportunities across the two companies and leveraging the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate brand," said Chris Masiello, the brokerage’s president and CEO, in a statement.

Real Trends ranked Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate The Masiello Group as No. 85 among the nation’s largest brokerages in 2009, with 4,227 transaction sides completed last year.
