A new website that markets properties in Mexico is aimed at retirees — particularly North Americans — providing property listings in and around the Yucatan Peninsula, information about new development launches, and real estate news in English and Spanish.
Mexzip.com founder Ray Ayuso tells OPP Connect that Mexico is home to around 1 million Americans.
“Mexico is the host of the largest American expatriate community in the world,” Ayuso said. “There are more Americans living in Mexico than there are in the U.K. or Canada.”
Among the most popular homes in the Merida area, where Ayuso is based, are luxury apartments, including Country Towers, La Vista, San Angelo, Torre Onze, Muranta, Fiesta Inn and Mirari Design Tower.
There are also private residential developments where investors can buy a house or purchase land and build their own home, including Algarrobos, Gran San Pedro Cholul, Allegra Residencial and Yucatan Country Club.
“Mexico has truly become a country for people across the world to enjoy their retirement years with a more relaxed lifestyle, better weather and a more affordable health care system and overall cost of living,” Ayuso said.
“One of the great benefits and reasons why many Americans and Canadians are moving to Mexico is because the cost of living is very affordable, especially when you convert dollars to pesos, your money is worth much more. With the money that it would cost you to live in New York one month, in Merida, Mexico, you can live three months or more, depending on how much luxury you are looking for.
“For example, renting an apartment in New York downtown or midtown would cost you around $2,000 to $5,000 a month, while renting a luxury condominium in Merida, Yucatan, in the best zone would cost you around $1,000 to $1,500.”
Ayuso says Mexico has other great benefits for U.S. retirees, including the fact that it borders the states and it already has many American retirement communities.
Another reason that it attracts so many foreign professionals is that many companies, particularly from the U.S., England and Japan, have offices or manufacturing plants in Mexico.
Merida is becoming one of the primary places in Mexico where people want to live, as it is close to the beaches of Cancun and Progreso,” explains M Ayuso.
“The city of Merida continues to see huge growth with several new skyscraper condominiums and private residential building being developed this year.”
