More than 50 female real estate agents have received suspicious phone calls and texts from a man who’s believed to have obtained information about them from real estate brokerage websites, the San Antonio Board of Realtors warned members this week.

The man, who is calling himself Michael and using a phone number with a 210 area code, “has been harassing members by repeatedly attempting to contact them and requesting an in-person visit,” SABoR said. “The phone calls have been during all hours and he has been leaving strange messages asking to meet with him or sending photos of himself to the agents.”

Thc calls have set off alarm bells in the industry, still shaken by the kidnapping and murder of Arkansas Realtor Beverly Carter in September. Two suspects in that case have pleaded not guilty.

KSAT’s Tim Gerber reports that police think the man thought to be responsible for the calls to Texas agents has been investigated for similar activities in the past. Victims are advised to contact San Antonio Police at 210-207-7635.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated. A previous version of this story included details from a SABoR alert about another incident that took place last year.
