Takeaways:

  • Real estate is the pursuit of infinity.
  • The hard part about having a team is having the right team.
  • Every conversation can result in a deal if you know how to sell.

We invited the Twittersphere to tweet questions to Ryan Serhant using #AskRyanSerhant, and this is what emerged — with Ryan’s advice added:

1. TashaSoundara asks: What’s your favorite part about real estate?

Well, this is a loaded question. I think about this a lot, actually — what gets me out of bed in the morning. Is it the money? The thrill of the deal? The fact that no day is ever the same?

I think I’ve always been someone who believes in free destiny. It honestly does not make sense in my brain that I would ever work for someone else with a (metaphorical) ceiling over my head.

Real estate is the pursuit of infinity. It can be very scary at times, but all risks are scary — that’s why they’re risky. My favorite part about real estate is the fear of the unknown and my ability to be as great as I want to be. That’s what gets me up every single day.

2. BHNY83 asks: Would you have the success you do today if you didn’t have the team you do?

Absolutely not. I can’t do everything on my own. I learned early on in this business that you must work with others in order to expand. I surround myself with hardworking agents, like myself, and they help me multiply.

The hard part about having a team is having the right team. Hiring the right agents for your team is not easy, but when you get it right, anything is possible.

3. Rubie_Khan1 asks: How difficult was your first year being a salesperson? How many homes did you sell for seller and to buyers?

I made $8,000 my first year. I didn’t sell anything — I only did small rentals and only a handful at that. I was terrible. I have always been a shy person, so I had to learn — very quickly — how to come out of my shell and really be a salesperson.

Every conversation can result in a deal if you know how to sell, and that took me a long time to understand.
