Apartment List’s March 2016 Rent Report for the Washington DC metro is here! With rents rising across the country, we took a look at some of the largest cities in the U.S. to see how they fare.

The result? DC’s rent growth rate is being outpaced by rent growth in the United States overall.

DC rents are still expensive

Despite the fact that DC rents are growing at a slower pace than the national average, apartment living in the nation’s capital is no small feat. One bedrooms here are averaging about $2,200 in rent, and two-bedroom apartments are at $2,980.

Arlington is the 2nd most expensive city in the DC Metro

Second only to DC proper, Arlington is the most expensive city in the DC metro. A two-bedroom here costs about $2,600 to rent, and a one-bedroom is at $1,990. Over the past year, rent prices in Arlington have increased by 2.3 percent.

Foggy Bottom-GWU-West End is most expensive

With two-bedroom apartments averaging $4,150 and one-bedroom units at $2,690, the Foggy Bottom-GWU-West End neighborhood is the DC metro’s most expensive.

Rents here have increased by 5.4 percent over the past year, making it the neighborhood with the fastest rent growth in the area as well.
