Initially known as one of the few Miami-Dade County municipalities to be built with a fully realized master plan in place, the village of Bal Harbour today is recognized for its luxury shopping, homes and hotels.
Boasting a small population of 2,633, Bal Harbour is split down the middle by State Route A1A, with condos and hotels lining the west side of the village along Bal Harbour Beach. On the other side of A1A lies Bal Harbour Shops along with homes sporting bayside views.
High-end shopping in Bal Harbour
Considered one of the most productive luxury fashion shopping centers in America, Bal Harbour Shops is an open-air mall that features primarily high-end designer shops. The landscaping through the center is also touted.
In mid-April the village’s council rejected a $400 million proposal that sought to expand the center. Nearby are some of the village’s highly rated hotels including The St. Regis Bal Harbour Hotel, The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, and Bal Harbour Quarzo.

Eyeing only condos, the majority of the village’s supply is valued at more than $2 million. There exists a minimal inventory of condos priced between $500,000 and $1 million. During the past year the market has seen between 17 and 30 condo sales monthly.
A notable resident of the village is Micky Arison, the owner of the Miami Heat who is said to have a real time net worth of $7.5 billion. He previously spent 34 years as the CEO of Carnival Cruises.
Given its small area, the village houses no schools; however in adjacent Bay Harbor Islands is Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Center. The school recently received a score of 10 from GreatSchools and is part of Miami-Dade County Public School. The center has an enrollment of roughly 13,000, which includes pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
The nearest high school to Bal Harbour is across the Biscayne Bay in North Miami, a roughly 4.5-mile drive.
