- Feature helps users uncover rental listings near bus, rail and subway stations in a few major cities.
Some home hunters are more interested in access to public transit than landing in a specific neighborhood.
With that in mind, Trulia has added a filter that lets renters zero in on listings based on their proximity to bus, rail or subway stations in a handful of markets.
It works by overlaying transit stations onto a search map and surfacing all listings within a 15-minute walk of each.
The feature means consumers can search listings based not only on their commute but also amenities like grocery stores and restaurants that they know are close to particular stations.
“Rent Near Transit” currently covers the San Francisco Bay Area’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), Boston’s “T,” Chicago’s “L” and New York and Washington, D.C.’s metro systems.

The filter can be particularly useful if used in conjunction with Trulia’s median price heat map. That way, consumers can compare pricing by station and pinpoint the cheapest patches of real estate close to stations.
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that one of the only other property search portals to offer a public-transit search filter, StreetEasy, is operated by Trulia’s parent company, Zillow Group.
