Homebuyer needs and wants aren’t universal, but those with children share at least one of the same demands: good schools.

Niche.com provides millions of reviews, polls and data on schools throughout the nation, which are then used to rank the top Miami school districts, revealing how some of South Florida’s public schools stack up against each other.

These rankings play an important role in finding a family-friendly locale and potential return-on-investment. Attom Data shows Miami homes in ZIP codes with good schools achieve 5.9 percent greater returns, on average.

Niche’s scores are based on student and parent reviews, state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores and teacher quality, among other factors.

Martin County School District

With 38 schools for almost 19,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, Martin County School District is rated the no. 1 Miami school district, accoridng to Niche, earning high marks for academics and extracurriculars and activities. Martin County also ranks sixth in Florida.

Collier County Public Schools

Collier County Public Schools in Everglades Township is no. 2 in the Miami metro and no. 11 in Florida. Collier County holds 72 schools, educating almost 45,000 students. The district has high marks for student culture and diversity, as well as sports and fitness and resources and facilities.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools

Also in Everglades Township, Miami-Dade County Public Schools ranks third in the metro area and no. 12 in the state. There are 542 total schools and over 350,000 students in the district, which did particularly well in academics, teacher quality and student culture and diversity.

Palm Beach County School District

Palm Beach County is no. 4 among Miami school districts and no. 14 in the Sunshine State, with 276 total schools and 182,895 students. The district has high scores for academics and student culture and diversity.

Broward County Public Schools

At no. 5 in the metro, Broward County Public Schools holds 367 schools and over 260,000 students. Broward County Public Schools is no. 19 in the state, scoring well in academics and student culture and diversity.

Monroe County School District

Located in Cape Sable Township, Monroe County School District ranks no. 6 in the metro and includes 25 schools and over 8,000 students. Monroe County School District is rated no. 22 in Florida, with high scores for student culture and diversity, as well as extracurriculars and activities.

Glades County Schools

Glades County in Southwest Glades Township holds 11 schools and just 1,531 students. This district ranks seventh in the metro and no. 47 in the state of Florida, with good scores for student culture and diversity but poor marks in health and safety.

Hendry County Schools

Hendry County has 16 total schools and almost 7,000 students. Hendry County Schools are collectively rated eighth in the metro and no. 62 in the Sunshine State, scoring OK in student culture and diversity but below average in health and safety, teachers and resources and facilities.
