Minnesota-based agent, Kris Lindahl, until recently the leader of Re/Max Results’ top Kris Lindahl Team, has left and set up his own brokerage in the Twin Cities, Minnesota: Kris Lindahl Real Estate.

Minnesota-based agent, Kris Lindahl, until recently the leader of Re/Max Results‘ top Kris Lindahl Team, has left and set up his own brokerage in the Twin Cities, Minnesota: Kris Lindahl Real Estate.

Lindahl cited his need to move on from a traditional brokerage process to compete in today’s market and service the consumer better and said his new firm will be structured as a team.

“The traditional real estate process has failed, the consumer wants more from their agent given the commission they pay,” Lindahl told Inman in an interview via phone. “We want to provide the next level of service without the restrictions of the traditional real estate process.”

Lindahl stressed, “This all about the consumer, we want the consumer to have an amazing experience rather than have agents wearing 50 different hats,” he said. With the team structure agents will have specializations they excel in, he said.

Lindahl’s team is currently 35 agents and 15 support staff, and is Re/Max Results’ top team, said Lindahl. Re/Max Results is the largest Re/Max franchise in America, and the Kris Lindahl Team is among the top 10 Re/Max teams in the country, chalking up $210 million in sales volume last year and on pace for around $300 million this year. The average transaction of the team is $300,000, and Lindahl is expecting around 1,500 transactions or more this year.

Now that the team is “set free” and on their own, Lindahl believes they will achieve even more sales volume. He said he had all his own tech and systems and that he was excited to have 100 percent creative control over his brand as an independent.

Re/Max Results broker owner John Collopy told Inman in an email: “Kris is a big-picture guy with huge aspirations, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

As the news broke today, Lindahl said he was having a lot of agents reaching out to join him. Lindahl is planning to open seven brick-and-mortar locations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The Kris Lindahl brand is the official real estate partner of the Minnesota Wild hockey team and is very well known in his markets. Lindahl has had success with buying website names when he was starting out. He was with Edina Realty from 2009 to 2014, then joined Re/Max Results and set up his own team in 2015.

Lindahl said he had spoken to his friend, independent brokerage owner Mark Spain and some of his colleagues about the move. Their advice to him, he said, was: “The first couple of weeks will be tough, but then you’ll be free.'”

As for Lindahl’s immediate plans: “Our biggest focus point is to develop leaders in their community, with their clients, their family,” he said, adding that he thought the brokerage model doesn’t want to invest in people.

Lindahl said he will be adding more talent to his leadership team. With five members at the moment, he is looking to have nine within the next six months.

“We want quality over quantity. What’s happening now is we have people reaching out from our market wanting to join our team, they have seen the brand we have built, it’s no different from Apple, it’s where the top talent wants to go,” he said.

The new brokerage owner is looking to have a total of around 60 to 70 agents by the end of the year. He said he is getting about five agents a day applying to his firm, all in-bound, without any prospecting.

“We are very selective, we hire to core values, we want to make sure we stand for what we believe is the right fit. Talent is the biggest thing for us, it’s about being generous. We want them to be coachable and to become a leader and give back to the community.”
