Compass announced it’s hired a former Uber executive, Jason Post, to serve as its vice president of communications.

“Now that Compass agents are serving more than 100 communities across the country, the way we tell our story matters more than ever,” Post said in a statement. “I am excited to join this impressive team and use my experience in journalism, government and tech to help connect with people everywhere about Compass and our mission.”

Post possesses a background that blends public and private work. Prior to working at Compass, he was the director of public policy and communications at Uber, the ride-sharing Silicon Valley unicorn.

Before that, he worked as managing director at Teneo Strategy, deputy press secretary for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NYPD spokesman and aide to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and was the producer of the NY1 News nightly political news program “Inside City Hall.”

Post also sits on the board of the Regional Plan Association, a New York City-based city planning and transportation nonprofit.

The top communications role at Compass had been vacant since the departure of Julie Binder in August, who left the company to go into the consulting world.

Post’s appointment also follows a recent trend for Compass of bringing in individuals from the tech world into leadership roles. In November, Compass hired Kristen Ankerbrandt as its chief financial officer, formerly a principal at The Carlyle Group, where she oversaw technology investment. In December, the company hired Microsoft executive Joseph Sirosh to serve as its chief technology officer.

Earlier in the year, Compass hired Khurrum Malik from Spotify to serve as chief marketing officer and Matt Rosenberg from Eventbrite as chief revenue officer.
