Matterport CEO RJ Pittman discusses the creation of “Mirrorworld,” the idea that everything in our world will have a digital twin in a form of a data-rich, virtual representation achieved through computer vision onstage at Inman Connect Las Vegas.

Watch RJ Pittman, CEO of MatterPort, deliver a big-picture overview of the digitization of our world and its implications for commerce and business.

Pittman spoke at Inman Connect Las Vegas 2019. Among other things, he discussed the creation of “Mirrorworld,” the idea that everything in our world will have a digital twin in a form of a data-rich, virtual representation achieved through computer vision.

This is one of the technologies that self-driving cars use to navigate. When applied to buildings, designers and engineers will be able to see the structural integrity of buildings at the same time as many of their other aspects.

Pittman predicts that rooms and buildings will become like computer operating systems.

Photos of rooms, for example, in the future won’t just show us “what’s in it, and what’s the square footage, and does it have nice windows. No. No No,” he said.

“We [will] know exactly what kind of windows they are, we know the dimensions of those windows, we know what’s on the floor. We know what electronics are in the room managing the temperature, your security system, the furniture, right down to the brands.”
