After much anticipation, the Facebook iPad app launched today. There was much speculation of the Facebook iPad app launching alongside the iPhone 4S. When that did not happen, many social media techies were wondering what day they were going to launch it – well, today is that day!
Announced today on the official Facebook page,
“Starting today, in addition to your smartphone or feature phone apps, there’s a new way to experience Facebook—the iPad app. Now you can enjoy your favorite parts of Facebook, combined with the best of the iPad. To get Facebook for iPad today, visit www.facebook.com/ipad”
Here are a few highlights of the Facebook iPad app:
- Left-hand navigation – easy access to News Feed, messages, groups and photos.
- Notifications, chat, status updates and search are easily displayed
- Photos encompass the entire screen. Swipe photos to view an entire album.
- The app supports video.
- Easy to send messages with a dropdown menu.
I am thrilled that there is finally an iPad app for Facebook.
Anyone who has used any of the other Facebook for iPad apps know that they are ok, but not really as functional as they could be.
It will be interesting to see how this app develops and changes over time, especially with the delay in rolling out public timelines.
