Brokerate.com, an online feedback system for real estate brokers in New York has had to suspend the commenting feature on their site because of negative comments.
We have temporarily disabled the commenting function while we install a registration system to ensure a greater level of civility and accountability by commenters. Thanks to everyone who's already contributed comments–we've got 'em on file and will repost them when the security system is up to speed. We want this to be an open–but fair–forum. In the meantime, please continue to add brokers to the database and rate existing brokers.
I guess this speaks to how passionate people feel about their real estate agent!
On a more serious note, this is going to be a critical aspect to any reputation ranking site on the Internet. How are you going to prevent the trolls from smearing each other, or boosting or burying individuals? Rapleaf, which I posted about earlier, says it has implemented strict security and fraud protection by employing both human and machine analysis of all feedback. But it remains to be seen how this space shakes out.
