- Only two Houston metro markets are amongst Texas' 30 most expensive housing locales.
- Housing in Houston is most expensive in its further out submarkets.
- The average list price for a four-bedroom home in the Houston metro is typically less than $300,000.
Another report points to Houston as being an affordable Texas housing market — ranking the city as having the state’s 42nd most-expensive homes.
According to a Coldwell Banker report, the average listing price of a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Houston is $237,204.
Go outside of the city to the metro’s submarkets, and homes escalate in price.
The report cited The Woodlands as Texas’ seventh-most-expensive housing market and Sugar Land as the 11th.

Average list prices in the two markets are $309,006 and $292,511, respectively. Sugar Land’s “south” region is the primary reason for its ranking, as on average homes sell for more than $500,000 there.
Two additional Houston submarkets — Katy and Pearland — ranked as having the 34th- and 39th-most-expensive homes in the state, with average list prices both around $240,000. Katy’s southwest region is known to produce average sales around $380,000.
While the Houston metro doesn’t possess a great deal of expensive markets, home prices are rising.
A separate report from the Houston Association of Realtors stated average and median home prices both climbed to record levels for the month of October. The average price of a single-family home reached $271,648, a 3.7 percent year-over-year rise, while the median price increased by 6.6 percent to $205,000.
