Tell me this isn’t ironic!

So I’m sitting out on my lanai (porch, for those that are from up north!) getting ready to begin my research on the OpenText Tempo product.  I find myself being uncomfortable (sitting with my laptop on my… lap) and decide that instead of reading the files I have been sent on my Mac, I’d rather go and relax in a lounger and read it on my iPad.  But, how can I get the docs from here, (my Mac), to there (my iPad)?

Duh!” you scream.

Dropbox it!

Ok, sure, but what if it was highly sensitive material?  What if it wasn’t just research I was doing but it was files on Mark Wahlberg’s multi-million dollar transaction I was working on listing (!) and wanted to look over while sitting by the pool?  Would you scream at me then?

Enter:  OpenText Tempo

How does OpenText Tempo differ from the well respected and well known, Dropbox, for example?

While Dropbox is an excellent product for everyday file sharing – such as photos, presentations, and other non-sensitive materials, OpenText Tempo’s high level of security and tracking components brings the confidential aspects to a much more acceptable level for the discerning business owner.

So in laymen’s terms, there is heightened security of your documents when using OpenText Tempo’s product, compared to the, often criticized, Dropbox product.  As explained by Lance Shaw, Director of Product Marketing, OpenText, “OpenText Tempo security is created by having your files protected behind your own firewall, by tracking each file’s touch and by individualized accessibility options”

Here’s an example of how their security features can benefit you:

OpenText files are shared with a Brokerage team at ABC Real Estate – a member of the team makes a change to a file – each member is notified that a file has been updated.  This is known as “rapid fire collaboration”. The difference between a typical consumer-based file storage and sharing systems and OpenText is that a record of each change is automatically recorded – who, what, why, when.  So any non-project team member opening a file is recorded and made known to all project collaborators.

Here’s a breakdown of what some of the different file sharing/storing products offer and how they differ:

OpenText Tempo’s next release (later this summer) is set to include additional features to their iOS app along with updates to their Mac based app.

There are two versions to choose from within OpenText:  OpenText Tempo and their newest version, Tempo Express Edition.  Unlike the other products, OpenText Tempo’s pricing is based on each company’s/individual’s needs, however, they do offer a 30 day free trial.

Do you feel there is a need for a more secure file storage/sharing product in the real estate world?  Let us know what your thoughts are and if you’ll be giving them a try, either in addition to another product or as a replacement.
