Airbnb handing over 'anonymized' user data to New York attorney general

DIY rental site Airbnb has agreed to hand over “anonymized data” to the New York attorney general about people who have offered to rent out apartments in New York that won’t include names, addresses or other personally identifiable information. Under the terms of the agreement, the attorney general gets one year to review the anonymized data and request information about individual hosts who may be subject to further investigation, CNET reports. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman subpoenaed Airbnb last fall as part of an effort to crack down on property owners and landlords who are allegedly operating as unlicensed hotel operators. Source: cnet.com.
