The California Bureau of Real Estate administered 2,826 real estate salesperson examinations in June, a 63 percent jump from a year ago, and issued 1,414 salesperson licenses, up 30 percent from a year ago.
But the surge in interest in real estate careers may still not be great enough to counteract attrition. Broker examinations and licenses issued were both down 2 percent from a year ago, to 658 and 507, respectively.
With many brokers and agents reaching retirement age, the total number of California licensees was actually down 3 percent from the same time last year, to 410,701, which represented an 8.2 percent decline from June, 2011. Source: bre.ca.gov.
