Want to sell your buyers a “lucky” house? If so, paying attention to Feng Shui can help your buyers avoid problematical properties while also assisting sellers in placing their property under contract more quickly.
Last week we examined important questions to ask about a property in terms of Feng Shui. Balancing the “five elements” (wood, earth, water, fire, and metal) assists in balancing the “Chi” (energy) in a property. This week we look at how to apply these principles to increase sales and to provide a better environment for your personal life as well.
1. Avoid homes with bad energy
Has something horrible happened to the occupants of a given property? Did they lose their business, experience a horrible illness, or are they going through a divorce? If so, this home may be difficult to sell and may be very bad luck for your buyers. If possible, determine what is motivating the sellers to move. If they are moving for positive reasons, then this home is an excellent choice. If not, take your buyers elsewhere.
2. Avoid having your money “drip away”
Water represents money. Drippy faucets and leaky toilets represent your money dripping away. Feng Shui experts also recommend putting the lid down on the toilet and closing bathroom doors. In contrast, fountains or waterfalls that “flow” towards your property represent money flowing towards you. Placing a fountain near the front door is particularly auspicious in terms of attracting wealth. Do not allow the water to become stagnant.
3. The “Mouth of Abundance”
In terms of our homes, abundance flows in through the “mouth” or front door. Consequently, making the “mouth” attractive will attract more abundance. A curved walkway to the front door is very favorable. You will attract qualified buyers (i.e., prosperity and fortune) to your door by planting bright flowers or by placing pots of colorful flowers by the front door. Nothing on the front porch should block the main door nor should there be anything sharp, straight, or angular aimed at the front door. The doorbell should work (how can you attract abundance if you don’t know it’s ringing?). Make sure your doormat is in excellent condition as well. It’s especially important to choose one that says, “Welcome!” In addition, place symbols of affluence and prominence such as coins, bells, or wind chimes (with hollow rods in groups of 6, 7 or 8) near the front door.
4. Keep your wealth in your home
In addition to dripping faucets, money can “run away” when the back door is visible from the front door. Money can also “run away” when the stairwell is visible from the front door. To prevent this from happening, put a beautiful area rug in the entry. If there is room, place a small table with fresh-cut flowers in the center of the rug. Another strategy is to hang a crystal chandelier and to place live plants adjacent to the stairs. In each case, this “breaks up” the energy so your money will stay with you.
5. Green and red attract money
Green of course is the color of money. Red is associated with abundance and good luck. A simple way to add more “green” is with live plants. They go with virtually any décor. To attract more money, you can also use coins. To determine where to place the coins (putting them in a red sack is recommended), stand in the doorway to the room. The far left hand corner is where to place the coins.
6. Poison arrows
These can occur when there is “too much” energy directed to a single spot. For example, a house located on a “T” intersection or at the end of a cul de sac will have too much energy flowing towards it. It’s better to avoid these properties if possible. If you or the seller owns this type of property, building a fence with lots of plants will help to disburse the energy. Corners are also another type of “poison arrow.” To reduce the negative impact, place a plant, a screen or some other object to break up the energy.
7. Your office
Red and green are very favorable. If possible, your desk should be positioned where your back is not to the door. Again, adding live plants, a fountain, and coins in a red sack placed in the “far left” corner will increase the “flow of abundance” in your office.
8. Pay attention to “intention”
To make Feng Shui work for you, it is important to look not just at your home and its furnishings but the circumstances and goals in making changes in your life, be they personal or professional. One of the main keys it to, “Keep your attention on your intention!” This means individuals who focus only on money will not have the same type of results as compared to someone who seeks to create a better life by serving others. “Giving back” is an important way to attract more and better things to us.
According to Mitchell, “When it comes to buying your next home, incorporating Feng Shui principles and guidelines is an opportunity and invaluable tool to manifest and create the life of your dreams.”
