It’s no secret that home designs and features transform over the years.
When technology advances like whole house automation were first incorporated into homes, we thought it was futuristic, but it was just a stepping stone to what homes look like today and in years to come.
Here are some of the major trends we see home builders and designers including in the homes right now:
A tranquil place to come home to
Newly built luxury homes are moving toward incorporating hotel and resort-style amenities.
People view their home as their own personal sanctuary, a place where they can escape from the rest of the world, so why not incorporate all of the amenities, products and spaces you would want on a luxury vacation under one roof?
Homeowners and buyers are more frequently asking their builders and designers to create a spa room with its own fitness area, along with a personal sauna room and sometimes even a massage room.

The entire spa and gym experience is replicated inside a residential property, allowing the owners to enjoy all of the amenities of a g
ym membership and visit to the spa without having to leave their house.
Pets are getting their own space
It’s not just the owners who get to have all the fun with these features and amenities– pets are treated like royalty, too. Homeowners make it a point to give their pets their own personal room. These dedicated pet spaces are complete with animal-friendly structures, pet sinks and grooming stations.

Builders incorporate the low-to-the-ground food and water dishes into kitchens or living spaces so that the bowls blend with the other appliances and features of the house.
Commercial design in a residential space
Texture on walls and ceilings is being used to create a wow factor.
Builders simply use Sheetrock as a canvas to create a unique surface, such as a 3D wall with ripples, diamond shapes or reclaimed woods on an accent wall.
By incorporating these designs on walls instead of one-dimensional paint, a designer is able to add movement to a room. Builders are also incorporating splashes of color in kitchens by giving buyers the option to upgrade their appliances from stainless steel to stainless black, slate grey or even a brightly colored oven range.
What once was an upgraded item, stainless steel is now standard in most homes. Buyers want a new option that stands out.
Technology continues to spread
We have seen technology make its way into homes evolving from being a luxury and entertainment value to being a necessity for homeowners.
Now, you are seeing the ability to monitor diagnostics of many household appliances through mobile apps. If there is a problem with a system or if something needs to be serviced, then the app can notify you to the situation, allowing you to be proactive with repairs.
Being able to monitor the home from a mobile device is very attractive to homeowners and buyers because we live in such an on-demand and technology-driven culture.
