• Every action stems from an intention. The more positive you are and the more true your intentions, the more determined your strides toward success will be.
  • Sometimes we judge ourselves too harshly. We limit ourselves, and because of that, our outcomes have become poor and substandard. Maybe it's time we give ourselves a bit more credit.
  • Dreams can come true. You just need to wake up and work to achieve them. There's no magic formula or spell; it's all about not giving in to despair.

Real estate is a world where possibilities are endless. The only limits to your success are those you impose upon yourself.

When you daydream, think wishfully or yearn for something, you are on your way to reaching your goal because the first step is to know what you want.

If you have clearly visualized it in your mind, if you have felt it and savored the delectable taste of success, you have just set yourself up for a journey. Starting will be easy enough; motivating yourself on a daily basis to continue on your journey is the hard part.

Elaine-Northrop

The power of creative visualization

Elaine Northrop has been in the real estate industry for 40 years, and she attributes her success to creative visualization. She grew up in Baltimore and now resides in Ellicott City, Maryland.

“Everything that I have now in my life came from my mind first,” said Northrop, who also became the No. 1 Realtor at Coldwell Banker.

“We are our own worst enemies,” she added.

We limit ourselves by what we perceive to be obstacles. We see hindrances and bumps on the road instead of opportunities to jump over.

We are surrounded by so much pessimism that we have forgotten to look at the other side of negativity.

In real estate, when we are challenged, what we always think about is the possibility of not getting a sale.

Sometimes it stops you, dead. Sometimes, it scares you, and you shy away. Sometimes, it intimidates you, and you forget to be the best version of yourself.

“Don’t doubt yourself,” Northrop said. The greatest nation in the world is not the “US of A” –- it is our imagi-nation. If you’re scared, you probably should be.

Acknowledge the emotions, and move on. Because what lies behind the fear you’re experiencing right now is freedom.

When you get past the thing that intimidates you, you become a better version of yourself — a better you. You have to program only positive thoughts; everyone knows that you need those when it comes to real estate.

Motivate, visualize and make it happen

Visualize the end product — the very thing you want to happen. The next thing you know, the stranger who just approached you could have been looking for a nice three-bedroom bungalow where he could build a home with his wife and two adorable kids.

Negative thoughts weigh you down. That’s why people don’t achieve their goals. They embark on the journey to get to where their goals are but get demotivated by the road bumps, detours and distance they have to cover first.

Eventually, all this negativity will eat at them, and they give up.

“People don’t want to deal with a victim; they want to deal with a victor,” Northrop said.

So if people keep on trekking this road, they will watch people pass them by on their way to someone with more confidence.

Overcoming the moment of defeat

It’s up to you to motivate yourself. Some people give up without realizing that their goal was just a downhill travel around the next bend. The time when you feel like giving up is the time when you have to fight the hardest to get to your goal.
