- Stop running on autopilot, and get focused in real estate.
- Change one habit in all areas of your life for one year.
- Be "OK" with not following the crowd to achieve higher results.
Create a rich life using your niche. By “rich,” I mean full of meaning, enriching, living in the now, experiencing every moment of your life and business by knowing that when you do something you do it to the fullest experience.
Typically, I talk about niche marketing by explaining that picking a geographic area, type of buyer or seller and/or price point will net you more money in real estate than the agent who is a generalist, helping everyone, everywhere.
Today, I wanted to also explain why taking the niche mentality to all areas of your life is a much more satisfying and rich life than you could ever imagine.
Once you take things on as a hyper focus, you learn things about yourself by digging deep, possibly even changing your focus in life and most definitely bringing value to others.
I believe the most important aspect of being in real estate is the value you can bring to another person, in most cases it’s the buyer or seller themselves.
Frequently, though, it is another party to the transaction who benefits with your value: the home inspector, the lender, the cleaning service, the stager, the craftsperson, the carpet company, the painter, the roofer, the radon worker, the title company, the immediate family members to the clients you are helping, etc.
There are so many pieces to the puzzle that along the way, you just never know who is receiving the most value from your interactions.
To this point, in real estate it is more important to be focused on what you are doing, so have a niche and know it inside and out.
Not so that you can focus on the dollar at the end of the transaction, but so that you can learn, grow, teach and be taught during the process and come away loving what you do even more.
Things buyers and sellers don’t think when you specialize:
- Gee, it’s too bad he or she specializes; we really liked him or her.
- That’s great he or she specializes, but that is not going to help us.
- Honey, let’s choose the agent who only knows a tiny bit about all areas to help us.
Things buyers and sellers do think when you specialize:
- He or she will bring more value to us for sure.
- He or she has really thought this through, which means he or she will put more thought and planning into our purchase or sale
- It’s nice to know our real estate agent knows our market so well; we definitely made the right choice.
Bringing the niche mindset to your everyday
I try to take this same approach to all areas of my life including: fitness, health, helping others, my family, relationships and my spirituality.
I didn’t always do this, and I can see clearly that I didn’t always receive value or happiness from my work, my health, my relationships or my relationship with myself (the spiritual side).
I would challenge everyone reading this to stop trying to be everything in all areas of your life and just pick one thing in each area that you will focus on for one year.
Yes, you heard me right, an entire year.
What if:
- You decided to exercise hard three days a week for one year — you just might lose that 10-15 pounds you have been complaining about
- You made a commitment to meditate three days a week for one year — you might find that you become more intuitive to your home and business and start making better decisions
- You asked more questions to your family members every time you saw them to find out their deepest desires in life that you never knew — you might be surprised at what the people close to you still have never shared
- You made a commitment to help one person outside your family once a week for one year — it might just be why you were put on this earth
- You saved $30 a week for one year by changing one purchase habit — you would be able to invest in a bank CD where the minimum investment is $1,000
- You decided finally who you would market to and did it weekly for one year — you might begin receiving non-stop calls and leads because you stuck with it
In my “what if” scenarios you might find people all throughout your relationships asking you questions and saying negative things.
Now, I am not saying all people will say these things. These are great, amazing changes, but I am saying they might.
I am here to tell you from experience that you don’t need to have an answer for anyone but yourself as long as what you are doing does not harm others in any way.
