Moby, a company that develops personal safety mobile applications, is offering real estate professionals a free safety toolkit this month, the company announced today.

September is the National Association of Realtors’ official Realtor Safety Month. Moby’s toolkit includes materials for a safety seminar, tips from industry safety experts, a link to Moby’s free safety app, and a copy of Moby’s recent real estate safety report, which is based on an online survey of more than 450 real estate professionals in the U.S. and Canada. The survey was conducted from March 2011 to May 2011.

Nearly 36 percent of survey participants reported that they felt unsafe while on the job occasionally or frequently.

“Many real estate professionals find themselves in situations that put their personal safety at risk, such as meeting new clients alone or visiting unfamiliar neighborhoods at night, which are all considered necessities to simply fulfill the everyday requirements of their job,” said Rob Goehring, Moby’s co-founder and vice president of marketing and product management, in a statement.

“The number of agents and brokers who feel unsafe is alarming … but (they) have indicated a strong demand for safety training to better prepare and resolve safety issues.”

According to Moby’s survey, nearly 42 percent of respondents said it was the responsibility of every organization in the real estate industry to provide safety training for its agents.

Moby will also be partnering with real estate social network ActiveRain to promote safety this month, the company said.
