Apartment search site RentHop is partnering with geospatial data provider Maponics to provide users with more accurate, granular data when they search for apartments in specific neighborhoods in New York, Boston and Chicago.

Maponics data will enable RentHop to provide better-targeted information to renters, the companies said.

Renters searching for an apartment in New York’s Upper East Side who select an apartment in a specific neighborhood within that area, such as Yorkville, will see detailed content relating to Yorkville specifically, as opposed to the Upper East Side generally.

Increasing the responsiveness of RentHop’s search results will help ensure that users see the best and most relevant listings, the companies said.

“RentHop is the perfect site for leveraging our neighborhood data,” said Maponics CEO Darrin Clement in a statement. “City dwellers experience their town not as a series of streets but as particular neighborhoods with their own vibe, and this is how apartment seekers look for apartments. We’re thrilled that RentHop users can benefit from this data when making important decisions about where to live.”

RentHop uses a proprietary algorithm, HopScore, to sort listings on the site. Search results are ordered by HopScore, and RentHop says listings with accurate descriptions score higher.

“RentHop is always leveraging new data sources to help apartment hunters find high-quality listings posted by trustworthy landlords and brokers,” RentHop co-founder and CEO Lee Lin said in a statement. “I’m excited the Maponics data serves a dual purpose of improving the online search interface while also bolstering the sophistication of our scoring algorithms.”

Funded by Y Combinator, RentHop serves the New York City, Boston and Chicago metro areas.
