Authorities say that Beverly Carter, the Little Rock, Arkansas, real estate agent who went missing after showing a vacant, bank-owned home to a stranger last week, has been found dead in a “shallow grave” at a concrete company, the Associated Press reported.

Carter’s body was found early Tuesday in a rural area at Argos Concrete Company about 25 miles northeast of Little Rock, Carl Minden, a spokesman for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, told AP.

Carter, 49, was set to show a home on Thursday night in Scott, a small town on the eastern outskirts of Little Rock, but she never returned from her appointment. Her body was found approximately 30 miles from that home.

Arron M. Lewis, 33, was arrested Monday on suspicion of kidnapping Carter. He has admitted to the kidnapping, but did not provide details on Carter’s whereabouts, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Lewis has not confessed to the slaying, according to ABC News. He is set to appear in court this morning and faces a charge of capital murder, Minden told ABC.

The discovery of Carter’s body marks a tragic end to a case that’s rattled the real estate community, and sparked calls for agents — many of whom regularly meet with complete strangers in empty houses — to adopt stricter safety protocols.
