The real estate industry embraces community work more than most realize, but each year the Mid-Atlantic Multiple Listing Service (MRIS) recognizes one exceptionally philanthropic real estate professional for his or her mark on the Washington D.C. community. The association recently selected Mark Lowham, CEO and managing partner at TRR Sotheby’s International Realty, for the Adam Cockey Award.

The award is named after former MRIS Chairman of the Board Adam D. Cockey, Jr., who passed away in 2012 and was known for his charitable work throughout the area.

As appreciation for his volunteer work, MRIS will donate $3,000 in Lowham’s name to the charity of his choice. In addition, the award gives $2,000 directly to the recipient.

The award is based on five criteria: leadership, humanitarianism, courage, enthusiasm and dedication.

TRR Sotheby’s International, comprised of 300 real estate professionals, was ranked 2015’s no. 1 Most Philanthropic Small Business in Washington D.C. by the Washington Business Journal. At the close of 2016, Lowham’s company will have participated in almost 100 public service events throughout the D.C. metro.

“Mark is a truly remarkable real estate professional, always placing integrity and professional service at the highest level, and making leadership a priority in the communities in which he lives and works,” MRIS CEO and President David Charron said in a statement.

Lowham is Chair of the Board of Directors for Inova Health System’s Life with Cancer program, Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for CharityWorks and sits on the Board of Directors for MRIS and the Wolf Trap Foundation.

Lowham, an Inman News contributing writer, also currently serves on the McLean Community Foundation Leadership Council and Board of Trustees for The Potomac School.
