• Expand your ideas about how you can make a contribution. Giving isn't only about money -- it's also about time and talents.
  • If you sell in markets that are deep in the winter doldrums, make an extra effort to step outside your office. You will change your mindset and be doing good at the same time.
  • Take an "it's too soon to tell" approach to all of your giving. After all, you can never fully know the long-term impact of your charitable deeds.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, goes the song. But for many real estate agents, the mad dash to the end of the year can feel more like “Bah, Humbug.”

When holiday songs, cookies and parties just aren’t giving you the boost you need, we have a remedy that will put some joy back into your season: the power of giving.

Giving has proven to have multiple benefits — and not just to the recipient.

So don’t assume that offering up more time, money or effort is going to stress you out. In fact, the opposite is true.

You’ll feel rich

Giving to others increases your capacity for love. Even if you don’t have much, you have enough to share with others.

Simple acts can be fulfilling. Empty your closet and find yourself overflowing with gratitude.

Donate a few sweaters and coats to your local homeless shelter. Your closet will be empty, but your heart will be full. You don’t have to give millions to make an impact.

Receive the gift of gratitude

When you donate, you feel grateful because you realize how great you’ve got it. You have a roof over your head, gas in your car, food in your fridge, clean water to drink and an amazing career.

When you give to your local food bank or write a check for an organization that helps people in need, you can’t help but feel thankful for the blessings in your own life.

Receive a gift from Uncle Sam

The money you donate to charity can be taken as a deduction on your tax return. This isn’t the main reason to donate, of course, but it’s a factor.

Keep good records so you can itemize donations correctly on your tax forms. Consult your tax adviser for the federal, state and local tax consequences of a charitable contribution.

On today’s podcast, learn how becoming a regular giver can positively influence your business, help you achieve your goals and make you an integral part of your community. We’ll also tell you about our favorite charities and share ideas on how to get involved.
