Compass is launching in Atlanta, the 17th market for the NYC-based brokerage since its debut six years ago.

The venture-funded New York City brokerage Compass is officially launching in Atlanta, the firm announced Thursday, just days after announcing a Seattle expansion.

Jim Getzinger and Jere Metcalf will lead the charge as agents during Compass’s expansion into the city. So far, Compass has hired 13 full-time employees in Atlanta and plans to open offices in Buckhead and Midtown and hire marketers, designers and administrators in the city as it grows its agent presence.

“Atlanta is a market we’re really excited about,” Chief Growth Officer Rob Lehman said in a statement. “The market is so unique, and we’re thrilled to partner with local experts like Jim and Jere as we build our presence in Atlanta. We look forward to bringing our world-class technology, marketing and support to real estate agents and their clients across the market.”

Getzinger was previously with Sotheby’s International Realty through the Getzinger Group, according to his website. Metcalf, an agent also known for her real estate podcast, was also with Sotheby’s International Realty.

Getzinger’s team did more than $70 million in transactions in 2017, with a focus on the Atlanta neighborhoods Ansley, Morningside, Virginia Highland, Druid Hills and Buckhead, Compass said. Metcalf’s team represented $37 million in sales over the past 12 months with a focus on Buckhead and Brookhaven.

“We’re eager to join the Compass family and contribute to their collaborative culture,” Metcalf said in a statement. “We’ve felt like a true partner from the beginning and look forward to the impact Compass’ support and technology will have on our business.”

The Wieloch Group, led by Jason Wieloch, is also joining Compass in Atlanta. Wieloch was previously at Keller Williams, where he was a member of their luxury division.

Compass, founded in 2012, is now in 17 markets across the U.S.

Atlanta is also a hot market for new, all-cash homebuying and selling startups including Opendoor, Knock, Offerpad, and coming soon, Zillow Offers, which should pose some added interesting business potential as well as competition for the real estate agents there.
