The reality is that things are changing. It’s the one thing we can count on, day in and day out. As entrepreneurs, we are constantly forced to grapple with this truth. And part of being an entrepreneur means living in a constant state of evolution. Today, the pace of that evolution feels like it’s moving at lightning speed.

But we don’t have to travel at the speed of light to keep up. We just have to be brave.

Real estate is shifting. We can all feel it. Technology feels pervasive and stronger than us at times. This makes real estate agents feel uncomfortable — but for me, I’m most comfortable when I’m uncomfortable.

Don’t let fear chart the course and cause you to wander down the road heavily traveled.

The road to success is typically the road less traveled.

It’s darker and unknown, yes. You might fall. Most of the successful people you watch have found themselves falling time and time again. Yet they pick themselves back up, brush off the dirt and carry on. Some have fallen thousands of times — but with bruised knees and tired legs, they keep going.

Now is not the time for conservative behavior. Now is the time for bold action and risk-taking. Now is the time to utilize the connection economy.

You can never be replaced.

Seth Godin says we’re moving into a connection economy where value is created by making connections rather than industrialism.

Utilizing the connection economy is the difference between those who will prevail in real estate today and those who will not. The agents who are touching their database every single day will be the ones who see success.

This past year, I’ve made a point to really dig deep into the crevices of my database, and let me tell you — it has made a huge difference.

Here are some of the ways you can utilize the connection economy in your business:

  • Make coffee dates
  • Attend kids’ birthday parties
  • Wish them happy birthday or happy anniversary
  • Give them a call
  • Send them a DM
  • Go to their events

Sure, we can augment what we do with the wonders of the digital world. These platforms can be wonderful tools to help you grow your business. But they can’t be your business.

That’s all on you.
