Real estate brokerage company Web sites ZipRealty.com and RE/MAX’s remax.com swapped places in the latest top-20 rankings of industry Web sites, published today by online metrics company Hitwise.
The top three sites on the list — Realtor.com, Yahoo’s realestate.yahoo.com and Zillow.com — held their places as the top three real estate category sites by market share of total visitors in August, Hitwise reported, followed by ZipRealty.com and remax.com.
Realtor.com had a category-leading market share of 7.04 percent in August, compared with second-place realestate.yahoo.com at 2.63 percent.
Rent.com, ServiceMagic.com and HomeGain.com remained unchanged in sixth through eighth places on the list, respectively, while Trulia.com bumped up from 10th on the list in July to ninth in August and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development site HUD.gov rose from 11th in July to 10th in August.
Apartments.com dropped from ninth in July to 11th in August; RealtyTrac.com, Century21.com and Homes.com were unchanged in 12th through 14th ranks on the list; MSN’s realestate.msn.com improved from 17th in July to 15th in August; VisualTour.com slipped from 15th in July to 16th in August; and MyNewPlace.com dropped from 16th in July to 17th in August.
ColdwellBanker.com, ForRent.com and Move.com were unchanged in 18th through 20th rankings on the list in August.
About 25.4 percent of all visits to real estate Web sites went to the top-10 Web sites in August, and 65.9 percent of all real estate Web site visits went to the top-100 Web sites in that category.
The average duration of visits to real estate category Web sites was 11 minutes, 36 seconds in August, compared with 11 minutes, 28 seconds in July.
Cyberhomes.com joined the Hitwise top-100 list in August, climbing from a 104th ranking in July to 67th in August.
Other sites joining the top-100 list in August include: LandAndFarm.com, WilliamsAuction.com, SeniorHousingNet.com, NHMSI.com, LivingChoices.com, mcbreo.com and eHBSR.com.
Among the sites that left the Hitwise top-100 rankings from July to August: lead.mbrokertools.com, RealPatrol.com, 21online.com, Curbed.com, RealTracs.com, Realtor.org, ForeclosureStore.com and RealEstateShows.com.
Top search terms that resulted in traffic at real estate sites during the four-week period ended Aug. 30 include: "realtor.com," "remax," "zillow," "zillow.com," "real estate," "realtor," "coldwell banker," "century 21," "apartments," and "for sale by owner," in that order.
Fast-moving real estate sites — which Hitwise identifies as those with "substantial increases in rank" for the four-month period ending in August, include SmithRealEstate.com, up 500 places to 1,368th place, and Chinowth & Cohen Realtors’ CCTulsa.com, up 495 places to 1,036th in the rankings.
Other fast movers include AlaskaRealEstate.2.Homescape.com, LandsOfWyoming.com, PropertyLine.com, LandForSaleByZip.com, PanamaRealtor.com, MuljatGroup.com, NewCondosOnline.com and HouseSearch.com.
