• Thomas Curtiss started out in real estate part-time to help his family rebound financially from the 2007 economic crash.
  • Curtiss is highly active, and found that his exercise, family events, church functions, volunteer work and other projects distracted his focus from his real estate career.
  • By combining his real estate prospecting with his diverse personal interests he was able to go from 10 to 60 transactions a year.

Can your daily workout make you money? What about your time on the golf course, your stop at Starbucks or volunteer work you do around your community?

The beauty of being a real estate agent is that you can make money, and these often-mundane parts of your daily routine can become some of your best sources of business.

Meet Thomas Curtiss, a 31-year-old real estate agent with the Kevin Blaine Real Estate Team in Tulare, California. Less than two years ago, Curtiss was self-employed in the network marketing industry to pay his bills. He was also part time in real estate and struggling to do even 10 deals a year.

Like millions of Americans, Curtiss struggled financially after the market crash of 2007, and he vowed to be the change in his family. After realizing that success meant that he’d need to commit 100 percent to real estate, he left his other part-time jobs. In just eight months, he’s now on track to close 60 deals in 2016.

Curtiss is also a full-time dad to his 10-year-old daughter, a Sunday school teacher and band member at his church. He loves participating in Spartan and Tough Mudder events, and he volunteers with three international non-profit organizations.
